Eighth grade is part of a departmental schedule. Students will have multiple instructors and have the responsibility of bringing all necessary materials for each class. Students may pay for a school issued locker in the Wolcott Office. Students may not leave any of their materials in the desks. Students may not share lockers. Students may also purchase a 16 quart bin to store materials; larger bins will not be accepted.
Student Expectations: *Be respectful. *Complete all assigned work. *Participate in all activities. *Have all your classroom materials on a daily basis. *Follow school uniform policy.
IB Middle Years Programme: The International Baccalaureate® (IB) offers high quality programmes of international education to a worldwide community of schools. There are more than 900,000 IB students in over 140 countries. IB students are: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective. As part of the IB Programme, students should complete 20 hours of community service. Community service activities are offered through the school, however, students should also complete community service hours in other community activities. We ask that parents assist their children in completing this component of the IB Programme.
AVID: All students must use an agenda to write down assignments. Students are responsible for maintaining an organizational system for their work. *Students may use folders with the following color coding system: *Red for Language and Literature *Blue for Mathematics *Green for Science *Yellow for Individuals and Society *additional folders for remaining classes.
Book Reports: Each student is expected to complete the equivalent of 25 book reports. Students are required to complete one book report independently and to complete activities related to to the novel read in class per quarter. The remaining required reading will be monitored quarterly via parent's signature on the quarterly report card verifying that at least 100 minutes have been read per week. Students who do not submit signed report cards will be responsible for completing additional book reports. Homework: Homework is an important tool in measuring students’ progress. Homework helps students reinforce what they are learning in class and provides valuable feedback to teachers. Please ensure that your child is completing their homework on a daily basis. Students have daily homework assignments. Students can check daily homework assignments on Edmodo. Uniform Policy: Students are to be in uniform every day. It is a white collared shirt and dark blue pants or skirts. All undershirts must be white. Sweaters must be gray, blue or white. Please see the Parent Handbook for specific uniform policy details. On gym days, students must wear the required gym uniform.
Attendance: Please make every effort for your child to be in school on a daily basis. If your child is absent due to illness, please send an absence note with your child when he or she returns. School starts promptly at 7:45 a.m.
Tutoring: I am available for tutoring on Thursday mornings starting at 7:15 a.m. Any student who would like to attend tutoring must make arrangements with me prior to Thursday morning. Please note that tutoring may be canceled due to scheduled meetings.
Parent Concerns: If you have any concerns about your child’s progress, please feel free to email or call me with questions. If you need to meet to discuss your child’s progress, that can also be scheduled.
