INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME (IB MYP) The International Baccalaureate is a global community with one mission: high quality education to create a better world. The IBMYP at McPherson is about creating a community of lifelong learners. At McPherson, the culture of the IBMYP is cultivated throughout the school encouraging caring, nurturing and altruistic qualities within the students and the student body.
The Middle Years Programme provides a framework of academic challenge that encourages students to embrace and understand the connection between subjects learned in school and the real world, and become critical and reflective thinkers.
Teachers organize the curriculum around the five Areas of Interaction: Approaches to Learning, Human Ingenuity, Community and Service, Environments, Health and Social Education.
These five elements form the core of the Middle Years Programme and are integrated within the student’s learning to help them see the connection between subjects and understand that real life problems are solved using skills and concepts from a variety of disciplines.
IB MYP students strive to be: inquirers, thinkers, principled, caring, balanced, knowledgeable, communicators, open-minded, risk-takers and reflective. This is the IB MYP Learner Profile, a holistic view of education. It puts the student at the center and unites us all with a common focus on the whole person as a lifelong learner.
All students in our 6th, 7th and 8th grade are IB MYP students in a program designed to encourage international mindedness, foster a positive attitude to learning, reflect real life, support the development of communication skills and emphasize the physical, intellectual, emotional and ethical development of our students.
